The Centre focuses mainly on Capacity Building of the demand and supply side of the RTI Act along with several other activities. The following activities are undertaken by the Centre.
In view of the huge response from Central and State Govt. Departments, PSUs and Autonomous Bodies for organizing training programmes on RTI and the dearth of trainers at the District level, IMG has been organizing series of Training of Trainers Programme for developing resource persons on RTI at the District and Departmental level.
The PIOs are now mostly well versed with the provisions of the Act. Hence intensive training programmes are designed exclusively for them with the active participation of the State Information Commission.
These programmes are organized with the objective of promoting and using the Act by NGOs , activists and the media for addressing issues of social relevance.
In our effort to strengthen the supply side various activities have been taken up by IMG in the last few years including quiz programmes sensitization workshops etc. Workshops were organized for the resource persons of Kudumbashree Network who in turn are expected to train the group members (comprising of 1.5 lakh members). It is also planned to organize streetplays in remote districts for creating awareness among the rural folk.
Developing Pamphlets Handouts, Reading Materials and Handbook on RTI for Distribution to Officials and General Public.
This is to be shown in training programmes on RTI and also for release in theatres in rural areas for sensitizing common man on the potential and utility of the Act.
IMG has recently launched Distance Training Programme using Video Conferencing Facilities of the Government of Kerala for training programmes related to the Right to Information Act, 2005.The first batch was conducted successfully at 5 District Headquarters using the existing Video Conferencing facilities of Government of Kerala. With this, IMG plans to extend this and conduct training programs simultaneously at multiple locations with Video Conferencing facility. 11 districts (other than the districts where IMG has its Centres) have been grouped into two and training using this distance learning mode would be imparted. The faculty and the selected District Co-ordinators will moderate the process, facilitating effective knowledge sharing .This would enable fast roll out to the entire State and better outreach.
The Institute has now initiated action for developing and deploying Knowledge and e-Learning Portal for Right to Information Act. This is to educate the Public and Government Employees to understand and apply the RTI and get the services from Public Authorities. Potential trainers/citizens can undergo the course by registering online and get certified on successful completion of all modules. It will have the facility to host e-courseware and online training materials in RTI and related areas. There will be topic wise Discussion forum to discuss the various related issues / topics in open mode and restricted manner.
